Communication Snafu Scenario 1
Problems:
• Intimidation on the part of the nurse with the nurse-physician hierarchy, and hesitancy to speak up.
• Physicians are task saturated/fixated in some cases
• Not following an established protocol which may be due to: 1) lack of awareness of the protocol, 2) above 2 issues of intimidation or task saturation, 3) poor implementation.
Communication Snafu Scenario 2
Problems:
• Lack of agreement amongst team and how to resolve in presence of patient
• Handoff of information between obstetrics and pediatrics
• Communication of clinical course to patient (and parents)
• Maintaining appropriate conversation for teamwork while being mindful of patient.
